Criminal Records Check - see below for details
BC Soccer now requires all coaches, assistants and managers to have a Criminal Records Check completed in order to volunteer with the RGSA. This letter has been sent out to all coaches for the 2010-2011 season.

The CRC can be completed at the Richmond RCMP detachment and takes about 10 minutes.  Click here for the letter that you will need to take with you in order get it completed. It is free for volunteers and for refs under the age of 18.  If you have to get fingerprinted (apparantly 70% do) you will need to fill out a Risk Management Form (click here) and get it delivered to Stewart.

Your CRC must be received by the RGSA by Friday September 23 .  If it is not received by this date, you will not be permitted on the field.

Thank-you for your time and attention to this very important matter.

Referee Clinics
SMALL SIDED GAME(SSG) SOCCER REFEREE CLINICS

The training of our referees is an ongoing task.

I would ask that you consider “Taking up the Whistle”. Refereeing can be a very rewarding experience and a character builder.

SMALL SIDED GAME(SSG) SOCCER REFEREE CLINIC

SUNDAY. OCTOBER. 3rd 2010(mainly but not exclusively for BOYS )

West Richmond Community Centre  (location to be confirmed)

9:00am-4:00pm

The training of our referees is an ongoing task.

I would ask that you consider “Taking up the Whistle”.  Refereeing can be a very rewarding experience and a character builder.

Should any of you be interested in becoming referees you should be aware of the above three clinics which are being run to enable you to become a soccer referee.

Briefly, the training is a 1 day clinic and on successful completion, the SSG referee is eligible to referee mini soccer games and to act as assistant referee in other youth soccer competitions.

Apart from the extra pocket money ($10 per game - mini), refereeing can help in player development and in leadership skills.

To  apply  to  register,  please  contact  George  Tweedlie  by  e-mail   at  joantweedlie@hotmail.com  using the subject line  “Soccer Referee  SSG  2010” and give  the following information.:-

First Name.
Last Name.
Gender.
Mailing Address(including postal code)
Which clinic you would prefer to attend.--SELECT ONE ONLY
Home phone number.
E-mail address.(one only)
Date of Birth.

The cost of the clinic is $35. In past years, the girl's soccer association has refunded the clinic costs for female players/residents.

Final details of the clinic(format/timing/method of payment/what you need to bring etc.etc) will be issued  a few weeks  before the clinic date. You will be advised by e-mail if your application has been successful.

There are limited spaces available and registration will be done on a first come first served basis.
If the clinic of your choice is overbooked, you may be offered a spot on one of the other clinics.

Some general  notes on refereeing in Richmond :-

1. Minimum age to start refereeing is 12 (a 3 month grace period at clinic time is normally accommodated).
2. The certification on successful completion of the clinic is “Small Sided Game” referee.
3. Small Sided Game(SSG) referees are permitted to referee any mini-soccer match in British Columbia..   A computerized system(on-line) for scheduling is used. Mini soccer matches are played on Saturday mornings and Saturday afternoons—(September to March)  and in Spring League(April to June)-various days/evenings.
4.  Small Sided Game referees are also permitted to act as Assistant Referee(Linesmen) in youth soccer matches in British Columbia. It is
unlikely that newly qualified SSG referees will be assigned immediately to be A.R. in Richmond.    There is supplementary training(free) available for those who show an interest in being A.R. Those who are successful in this training will get priority in A.R. assignments.

5. The CSA/BCSA referee development model(beginner to FIFA) can be viewed on the BCSA website. at www.bcsoccer.net

Thanks

George Tweedlie

Head Referee,   Richmond Soccer Association.

Richmond Youth Soccer and Richmond Girls Soccer, along with the Rotary Clubs of Richmond, are pursuing the potential to build a field house at Boyd. City approval has been granted and now we will be on to the work of design, raising funds and making it real. We hope that it will be a great barn raising community project. There should be lots of opportunity for our members to get involved, and we hope you will.

Jewelery rules
Please read the note below in regard to earrings, etc...

Earrings cannot be taped they must be removed.
If they cannot be removed the referee is instructed (by BCSA) to inform the player that she/he cannot play.
This goes for all "non-essential" equipment.    Including but not limited to :-necklaces ,anklets, bracelets, body piercings(we do not encourage referees to do a body search),string/rubber wrist bands etc, etc.
Exceptions are items which the player claims to have religious/cultural/medical significance. For these cases the player is required to report to the referee to ensure that the "wrapping " of these items poses no danger to the player or anyone else on the field of play.
It should be noted that referees are not trained to be experts in the many religious /cultural groups operating in British Columbia. If the referee considers that a false/trivial claim is being made , he will accept the players description without discussion BUT may put the incident in his match report which goes to the governing body.
Coaches are encouraged to be pro-active regarding "non-essential" equipment----------leave the stuff at home; it saves going through the hassle; it gives you more time to warm-up instead of dealing with distractions.
You may not have needed to know all this stuff but I find it helpful to reiterate from time to time.

George Tweedlie Head Referee     RGSA/RYSA
